Athena Sanders is deaf and new to McFarland, where not many understand ASL. It doesn't help that she has vitiligo, a skin condition that causes her usually dark skin have white patches. She's been judged her entire life because of it. Athena doesn't make many friends and doesn't talk to many people. She mostly keeps to herself and stays in the shadows. Until she runs into Victor Puentes.

Victor is a ladies man. He flirts with all the girls and bounces from girl to girl. Until he runs into Athena. She's the one girl that changes his mind and he wants to date her. Badly. Only he doesn't know how to speak ASL and couldn't really talk to her.

Athena and Victor go through life at McFarland High together. They go through troubles with each other. Victor is one of Athena's only friends and eventual partner and Athena soon becomes glad she moved to McFarland.All Rights Reserved
