Axe's nightmare has become reality.
Not only has he been bought by one of the cruellest plantation owners in the state, he befriends his master's son Henry.
Axe has dreams. He wants to get his family back and live on a farm with lots of chickens. Henry wants to end slavery and see his parents happy again.
It's not long before both boys find themselves trapped deeper in a world of facades, and lies where prejudice rules the hearts of the people, and skeletons hidden far from sight, make their way to haunt the living, giving Axe no choice but to run away.
However, running away brings grim realities that not only test their friendship, but could change both Axe's and Henry's lives forever...

When Lincoln Loud volunteers to test out his genius sister Lisa's latest invention-a prototype time machine-he expects a quick hop through history. But a sudden malfunction throws him far off course, hurling him into an alternate timeline... and back to December 1970. Confused and disoriented, Lincoln tries to make sense of the strange retro world around him-until a local newspaper headline delivers a gut-wrenching truth: this isn't just the past... it's a different reality entirely. The music distorts. And the park's lovable mascots? They're alive... and watching. Now trapped inside a twisted carnival of sweetness and shadows, Lincoln must survive the nightmarish world of Kandyland. Its animatronic hosts-once smiling figures of joy-now hunt him through the fog-filled grounds, determined to keep their newest guest forever. Eleven-year-old Lincoln Loud receives a mysterious letter one day, inviting him to visit a toy factory called Playtime Co. At first, the invitation seems like a simple curiosity, but there's something about it that feels different-almost as if it was meant for him. Intrigued and unable to shake the feeling that this could be something important, Lincoln decides to make his way to the factory, eager to uncover the secrets behind the strange letter. When Lincoln arrives at Playtime Co., he's stunned to find the once-bustling factory now abandoned, its walls crumbling, and its windows shattered. It's eerily quiet, and the air feels heavy with neglect. But Lincoln's not one to back down easily. He knows he didn't come all this way for nothing. Determined, he searches for a way in, eventually finding a broken door that creaks open as he steps inside. Once inside, Lincoln is struck by the strange atmosphere that permeates the factory. The rooms, once filled with joy and laughter, are now dark, dusty, and cold. But as he ventures deeper, he begins to notice strange, unsettling details-old, forgotten toys scattered across the floors, strange markings on the walls, and the faint sound of something moving in the distance. It becomes clear to him that there's much more to this place than meets the eye. The factory is far from abandoned-it feels alive in a way that's almost impossible to explain. As Lincoln continues through the factory, he uncovers secret rooms, hidden corridors, and clues that suggest Playtime Co. was not just a place for creating toys. There's something far darker at play here-something dangerous, something that's tied to his arrival. With every step, Lincoln starts to piece together the puzzle, realizing that he wasn't just chosen to visit this place by chance. His arrival is no accident. There's a deeper reason he's been brought here, and it involves a life-risking challenge that could change everything he knows about the world and his past.
