Kala had always thought of herself as normal, but when the world ended, cleansed by a power most would fail to understand, she realized she was far from normal. That day, Kala awoke in a fog surrounded by a nothingness that permeated every pore of her body. The only sounds she could hear were her own ragged breaths in the vast and empty darkness. When the light finally returned, she found herself utterly alone and suddenly part of a struggle much bigger than she'd ever thought possible. With that struggle came something else...power. Power to control the elements. Power the likes of which she had only seen in movies or read about in books. Despite her disbelief, it remained...right there in the palms of her hands. Eventually Kala learned to use her power as it was intended. As she wandered the new world, she met others like herself, other Servants with similar abilities who understood the reason for the destruction...for the loss. And then, six years after her world turned upside down, she met him. A handsome stranger in a tiny town in the middle of the West Virginia woods - not a Servant - not like her. And certainly not the type of man Kala had expected to find herself falling for. But the man she met there turned out to be more than just a hero in her time of need. At her side, he would become a protector, leader, confidant, and so much more. Together, they would find themselves fighting a growing evil...a man like Kala, who had been granted power beyond words or description. He might have been a good man once, but his fall was nearly complete. And now he desired only to rule - not to heal. This man would lead a small army against them, but they wouldn't have to fight alone. There was another, more powerful force on their side...one that could change the course of the war to come.

Mairsinn had served as the commander of the Taghadairean for longer than she cared to remember, part of the sisterhood responsible for protecting the halls of the gods and training with the battle-slain who dwelled in Tallamarbh. She also decided which candidates passed the trials or died attempting to gain recognition as Comhairle warriors. She wasn't sure how many bhampairean she'd killed because they chose to step into the Proving Grounds, underprepared. She only knew that she was weary of it, and sometimes she needed to escape. Unfortunately, chasing an illicit, temporary release from her duties left her vulnerable, and at least one bhampair had a bone to pick with her. When a ghaisgeach attacks her, knocking her out and dragging her to a grim dungeon where several bhampairean are being held, Mairsinn needs to figure out what her captors want from their prisoners. What connects the captives? Will her jailers want to keep her or sell her to the highest bidder? Can she find a way to escape? And if she does, will her place as commander still wait for her? Meanwhile, Aodh, second-in-command of the Comhairle-Chlaidheamhan, had been tasked with persuading an unwilling noble to help the Council with legal matters. That wasn't work for a warrior, but leaving the task to Corvinus seemed... risky. Nonetheless, when Aodh's gift as a seer revealed that one of the Taghadairean had been abducted by someone wielding a Comhairle sword, his focus needed to shift. Making nice with a noble no longer seemed so important, not when the woman responsible for protecting the gods and assessing new ghaisgich had been abducted; stolen away from a supernatural establishment trading in angel blood, a place she should've had no reason to be. Worse, the visions of her just keep coming, making his gift even more intrusive than it had been before. But why? There was no love lost between him and the commander, yet he couldn't get her black eyes out of his mind. He needed to find her.

In a time long gone, everything was perfect. There were three species that ruled the world: Elves, Gods, and Humans. They lived in a perfectly balanced world for thousands of years until an unfortunate turn of events caused the elves to be banished to the trees, the gods to the skies, and the humans to the grounds. Inevitably, the two greater powers began a cataclysmic war. Today, thousands of years later, is when things start to take an unexpected turn. Victoria Fugo is an orphan. Her parents abandoned her at a rundown orphanage as a newborn, and she has never known any love except for that given by her stingy caretaker, which is next to none. She has a single friend, and spends most of her time reading fairy tales and daydreaming. Cerritulus is the odd elf out. Donned in colorful shorts and kimonos with weird patterns, she's an outcast of all sorts, considered strange even by her own parents. Her total obsession with myths and history unsettles even the most hardened treasure hunters. Certus is a teenage heartthrob. He's intelligent, gorgeous, athletic, and humble. While all of the other elves, male and female, throw themselves at him, he brushes them off and prefers to disappear into the background with a book. Tom is Victoria's only friend. Her mischievous, attractive, extremely intelligent friend. His strong skill is coming up with elaborate schemes and flirting with every person who ever passes through the orphanage. When these four are strung together and get tangled up in a myth as old as time, they soon discover that there is much more to old legends than just a few elves and a prophecy. Think you know magic? Think again.
