Deletion of 1940 America: Subtraction in World War II
An alternate scenario of World War II. Typically, these stories involve adding elements, such as equipping Japan with modern technology or granting them knowledge from the future. But that approach feels too conventional, so I tried subtracting instead. I decided to remove the enormous factor that is the United States of America. The result was an entirely different history. You died. I mean, it happened quite a bit during your lifetime. It wasn't anything different. However, instead of you waking up in the barracks again, you found yourself in a very odd place. A place where skin and fur were the same thing. "I hope I don't die too many times here." What if the Soviet Union won the Space Race? What if the Cold War didn't end? What if there was never a disaster in Chernobyl? In an alternate timeline where all of the above are true, the tension between the world's superpowers reached its peak at the end of the 20th century when a nuclear submarine was sunk in the pacific ocean.
