Madison Jacobs lives in North America where the government created a system that is supposed to keep peace and just let everyone be happy. Everyone is in the Eastern part of America and well there's a wall surrounding everyone. Guards are standing on top of it keeping us in, or something out. We've never known. Each and everyone of us are given a bracelet when we're born with a 4 lettered carved on it, then as we get older we are given a necklace instead. Every year on April 6th, all boys and girls that are 16 meet at this big building and our numbers are read, the ceremony is called The Number Ceremony. The numbers are for a purpose, to find the one you love. No one is in a certain group or anything, were the exact way we were before the war, except there's peace. Everyone almost has the same clothes so no one can judge each other. There are people that have ran away and went over the wall. They could've went alone or waited for their partner. People have seen the Climbers, different clothes, and hairstyles. Everyone says they have their own community but others say their in groups and go against each other. Madison wants to know what it feels like to be different and basically she wants to know what else is out there besides the city. When she finds her partner will she run or stay with her family? Well I guess your going to read to find out.
