Did you ever read the short story Zero Hour by Ray Bradbury?
Well, back in high school, we were given an assignment to rewrite the ending for one of the short stories in The Illustrated Man. I decided to rewrite the ending for Zero Hour. Keep in mind this was back in 2010, when I was in 9th grade. It's a little dark, but I like it. The story itself was dark before I did this assignment, with my ending, it's a little bit twisted... I hope you like it!

And instead of greeting you with open arms, they kick you until you fall and kick you some more. Though they always say there is a light at the end of the tunnel. And if you're lucky to grab it, do your best to protect it. By any means necessary. But if by unfortunate accident, you lose that light, then why not try to avenge it by burning the scum from this rock called Earth. *A/n: this is an original story but it does tie in with the 2009 remake which tied in somewhat with the first movie so bare with me if the dates are off. (edit) I forgot to add that this started out as a confessional journal about becoming clean after a 10 year + addiction to OTC cold meds, but that was not my style of writing, I liked the material so I wanted to expand it into a novel length work featuring the journal elements. To say this work is a roller coaster would put it lightly. Although there are elements of time travel I would consider my sudden transitions reality travel. I use actual experience and dreams as a foundation, then toss in some fourth wall breaking narratives (meta-fiction), with a sprinkling of facts and quotations from songs and factual articles. It tends to be written similarly to an essay sans the boring. I have been influenced strongly by Vonnegut and W. S. Burroughs , and a wide variety of album rock, and that bleeds through. The tags dystopian and dark humor describe the whole piece best but there is a lot of genre jumping. I've done a good deal of research, not just for factual things but for the type of writing I do.
