"Why do you refuse to love me!?" Parker asks, his eyes red from crying. The noise of rain hitting my run down window and the fog outside setting the mood. I've told him over and over again that I don't love. Some people don't like eating, some people don't like seeing people sad, I just simply don't like loving. I sigh and run my hands through my short cut hair, my rings tugging slightly on my hair, making my head hurt. I can feel tears threatening to fall out of my eyes, my eyes holding a vulnerable look that I hate. I look Parker in the eyes, "Like I said, love is an illusion." When Allison Baker was young, she was taught that love was just an illusion, a one time euphoria that just passes away after a bit. As she grew up and the others around her started to fall in love, she decided to give love a try, not wanting to end up like her mother who moped around because the father Allison has never met left. Allison did fall in love, but she's not in love anymore, she felt the euphoria, and that one time sweetness cost a piece of her. So now, to Allison, love is nothing. Until she meets a boy, who wants to teach her that love is everything.

Ali Baker once adored her pack-until her mother's death forced her father to flee, shattering her world and leaving behind her best friend and first love, Ronan Black. Years later, she turns down Ivy League offers to attend college back home, determined to discover if Ronan is her fated mate. He is-but he already has a girlfriend. As undeniable feelings and their bond resurface, Ronan is torn between loyalty and destiny. When a dangerous vendetta emerges, targeting Ali, the two must fight for their love and their lives, forcing Ronan to confront the dark legacy of his father's past before it destroys them both. **** 'No! No! No! This is not happening!' Ronan panicked as he spoke to me through our mate bond. I could hear the defeat in his voice as I was taken further and further away from him. 'I want you to know that I love you, Ronan. These past few months have been the happiest of my life. I only wished I could have returned the favor to you.' 'Don't say it like you're saying goodbye.' He was in full distraught now. Ronan's voice was breathy and cracked as he spoke to me. 'I'm not. I know you'll find me again.' 'Yeah, I promise. I'll find you, baby. Hold on, ok?' 'I will. I will wait for you. I love you.' 'I love you too, Ali, more than anything. Please just keep -' Suddenly, I was alone. The mate bond was a funny thing. It had its limits. The bond worked like a rubber band. When we were close to each other, it pulled and strained against us, pulling our souls together and allowed us to hear the other's thoughts. That bond allowed us to feel the other's emotions and pain. It was a fantastic thing to be a part of. However, just like taking a rubber band and pulling it as far as possible, it loses strength before breaking entirely.
