One day she saves the life of a group who claim to have found the lost city of Atlantis. In exchange for her skills as a mechanic Kai is welcomed into the city. There she begins to build a life of peace unlike anything she has ever known. There is one person on Atlantis however that remains suspicious of her past.

John Sheppard has been a soldier all his life. Over the years he has learned to trust his instincts, and his instincts tell him there's something more to the mysterious mechanic than meets the eye. When danger comes to Atlantis Kai is forced to reveal the secrets of her past to save her new friends. Once that trust is broken however, is it possible to pick up the pieces of the life she has grown to love?
