Brynn was young when her grandfather had her pack up a small number of her things, and they moved north, into the mountains to set up a home. The only answer she got for the abrupt move was that they would be safe in the mountains. She didn't question it as her grandfather had taken care of her always.
Years later, Brynn no longer questions him, and she has gotten used to the quiet the mountains offer. On the eve of the winter solstice, also the day before her 20th name day, her grandfather sits her down, and finally tells her of the reasons he had moved them up the mountain years before.
He tells her that it is no longer safe for her to stay in one spot for too long. The king and his men will be dispatched to find her now that her powers will awaken.
Her grandfather tells her that when she was no more than a babe, a young woman came to his door and begged him for help. The woman was a fae, Brynn's mother, and at the time a full out war had been declared on the fae in the kingdom. Brynn would appear human until her powers settled on her 20th name day, her grandfather was told.
Brynn's mother left her with him, and so he decided to care for her as he would have if she was truly his. He had moved them to a smaller village, but her eyes were a telling trait, a piercing violet that had grown more and more bright as she grew up. And so, to the mountains they moved.
Leaving the mountain home because it was no longer safe for her, Brynn embarks on a journey of self-discovery and survival.
