Gripped Defiance

Esme Gladimere belongs to a pack that was placed in the category as common when it came to pack ranks in the Americas. Her role in the pack held expectations as being the Beta's daughter in the Kaskade pack. Being 20, she already had everything planted in her life, with no plans on changing anything.
That was until her pack held an open invitation to a well known meeting among three other packs. Esme being one of the wolves picked to attend to present the pack. During the meeting, an announcement was made stating one of the newly alphas was getting married, alpha Layton Valdor of Jalxter Pack. During the announcement, Esme becomes alarmed as the newly engaged male was in fact, her mate.
Tension rises as Esme quickly realizes the torn hatred in her mate's eyes when he too realizes. He's not willing to accept Esme as his true mate, no matter what bonded them together.
