Jessa Grace was struck by two drunk drivers while driving home from the store. Last she remembers, she was in the hospital and her parents were talking to her, but she didn't understand them.
When she woke up, she was in an abandoned building. Thinking she just got drunk with her friends and ended up here, she walked outside. What she saw changed her forever.
She saw an abandoned, dry, overheating town of Marshfield, Wisconsin.
The only things living in Marshfield, now, are her, a boy, and a pack of hyenas.
However, as they travel across the land bridge that rose from lowering sea levels, they find more and more people to join them.
