After a devastating oil spill pollutes the coastline, 13-year-old Alona is heartbroken by the sight of the once-pristine beaches now covered in tar and debris. As she helps to clean up the damage, she reflects on the beauty of the ocean and the tragic impact of human carelessness.

Join Alona and her mother, a marine biologist, in their small efforts to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our planet's precious natural resources.

This is a one-shot English story, written as an entry for the #PlanetOrPlastic National Geographic Writing Contest in December of 2018.
