Isamu "Sam" Haruto has always been the kid being picked on, whether it be for his Japanese heritage, or his diminutive height. Frustrated by life, Sam has turned to an alternative; a virtual life, inside the first ever VRMMO, Dragon Companion Online. In there, he hopes to meet companions, friends, and explore a world of adventure.
The story follows Sam, as he struggles with social anxiety and bullying in the real world, as well as his adventures as a great Rider, with bonded dragon Midnight, through the virtual land known as "The Night," a monster ridden country filled with people who need help to bring rise to a great civilization.
