Emilia Brawen's marks have been black since her first celestial day. While having different marks has historically caused little squabbles, The city of Sithage has gradually picked a side. And its not Emilia's.  Guerilla warfare between Celestial Light and Celestial Dark people is encroaching on her city after a hate group makes it their base.  An unprecedented attack of major proportions robs Emilia of her speech. But the fight for peace is not one that requires speech alone.  To avenge the life of her friend, and the redeem the good name of her comrades, Emilia ventures to kick extremism were it hurts. After the king's death, his heir decided such a weapon was inhumane for war, but too valuable to relinquish; The dragon was commanded to remain in her prison beneath the kingdom forever. Enraged, she began to kill any human who entered her cell. Rather than command her to stop, the royal family found her to be an efficient executioner, and an effective threat to dissenters.
