La historia transcurre en el año 2035, un chico de 18 años cuyo nombre es Jake Matthews, es un recién graduado de la institución más prestigiada y casi única del misterioso pueblo Wand Elm, luego de estar a la deriva pensando en que hacer con su vida, decide estudiar la carrera como Detective en el pueblo.
En el tiempo que disfruta de sus vacaciones antes de que estas terminen y estudie para su carrera, investiga el misterioso pueblo por los extravagantes casos de asesinatos y desapariciones que según él, están relacionados aunque no cuenta con el apoyo de nadie y deberá investigar el caso por su cuenta teniendo en mente los diversos problemas que tendrá por meter sus narices donde no debe.

My life was supposed to be normal. You're born, raised by good parents, go to school, make friends, graduate, get a job. You create fun memories, find the love of your life, get married, start a family, grow old, and eventually, you breathe your last. That's what life was supposed to be like for me. But instead, my life turned out to be the opposite of normal. And so it was for Chiara, Blake, Jake, Rowan, Nova, and Dijon. To tell our story, we need to go all the way back to the beginning. Every year another person got powers, and so, the search continued. But there was always one question on mr. Knight mind: Why 12 children the first time, and only one per year after that? And one thing was for sure: whenever someone gained powers, they had to give something up in return. It was never a choice. It was just the way it was. So, now that I've explained a bit about how this all started, let's fast forward to the present. It's now 2033. Mr. Knight has found 19 children, and Mr. Douglas, the leader of the other group, has found 10. That means... the 30th child is out there somewhere. Who will it be? And one more thing before I go-welcome to the world of Dark Light.
