There was a tradition in Canieaan, all unmated females from the age of 16-25 had to report to the capital once a year in order to be matched with a potential mate. The only females that were excluded were the ones who had been given permission from the King. Once in the capital, Shellsae, the females were tested and ranked based off of certain aspects: appearance, physical capabilities, accomplishments, and lineage. Because of her position as a Royal Protector, Jaden had escaped being entered in the Claiming. But that was all before Jaden's younger sister, Caylin, had been old enough to be entered.
