Jace Herondale is devastated after the loss of his girlfriend Clarissa Fairchild. He doesn't know how to grieve her so he does it the only way that feels normal to him. Revenge.
He was there when she was murdered by a demon, she died in his arms, but as he ran up to her he caught a glimpse of the creature running away from the body, it was too human like to be a regular demon. He believes Valentine Morganstern was behind the evil deed. It makes sense he is the most evil and wanted out of any villain in the shadow world, and now he's #1 on Jaces hit list. Valentine has nobody to help him, not even his own daughter.
