Max Klink. A fairly normal young man who plays vigorous D&D matches with his friends, tries ( and fails ) at doing his best, and is fairly indifferent when it comes to the prospect of graduation.
He knows he is just another pawn in a really fucked up game of chess that lost most its peices, not as important as the king or knight. But what he didnt expect, was that he was about to meet the perspective of someone who wasn't quite on the gameboard.

I look at his arms tense as he drags the needle over his client, his tattooed bicep bulges and a vein on his forehead becomes prominent as he focuses on the design. It is a beautiful sight, his green eyes move away for the clients body and raise to meet mine. When I slammed my locker shut and turned to see Toby standing there, watching me, I jumped in fright and dropped my bag. Talk about speaking of the devil. I picked it up quickly before he could and said a rushed "hi" before turning to leave. But Toby pulled me back to him making my flustered countenance change and I was suddenly defensive. I pulled away and made a face. "Do you need something or something?" I questioned him. "Relax," he said. "Are you in a hurry?". He sounded so sweet. And why was he looking down at me so innocently? "I'm not", I said with a shake of the head. He seemed very polite so I instantly felt bad for being rude. "What's up?". "You're Harvey, right? Harvey Celestine?". I nodded. "You're Maria's friend". "To the point, Meyers". I was quickly becoming bored. Toby looked surprised for a moment, although I didn't know why. But then, he smiled a little. "You left your geography note and textbook in class and that wouldn't do considering the fact that we have a geography test tomorrow". I immediately switched up and started thanking him profusely. All my sticky notes and reminders were in there. He smiled and waved it off before turning to leave. When I got home, Maria gave me a phone call, squealing like a child. "Toby invited me to his birthday party this Saturday!". I pulled the phone away from my ears to protect myself from the extra scream that came after that. "He said you could come too". An Unexpected Moment

No one knew it, but her father was a high functioning alcoholic that often took his anger out on his family. With her older sister now in college, it had turned to her more often. Laying low in general was a good strategy. Across town, Ryan was prepping for his final year in high school. While he wasn't the stereotypical quarterback of the football team, he did fit into the popular crowd. His sports of choice included basketball and soccer, either of which might line him up for a scholarship next year. Ryan had a group of close friends and a lot of adoring acquaintances. It wasn't easy juggling his athletics and keeping the grades up, but he was just that good. The supporting parents didn't hurt either. It might be a cliché romance, but it will be fun to see what the year and beyond holds. ------------------------------------------ This is a story I wrote years ago, or at least partially wrote.
