Who is Jason Reid Cabrera? He doesn't exactly know yet, but he promises to get back to you once he figures it out. He can't seem to figure out what's wrong with him. He doesn't feel like the other kids his age. He doesn't feel the passion he felt for life like he once felt when he was a child.
But really, who is Jason Cabrera? A Junior at Chesterton High School, 16 years old, likes to draw and watch TV. His birthday is on July 12th, and he's a cancer. Not that he particularly cares about zodiacs. He has two younger sisters and two happily married parents. His favorite color is blue.
But what makes Jason unique? What makes an ordinary kid like Jay any special? What's the point of anything if you're simply another human on the Earth of the billions that are already there?
Jay finds it especially hard to find things worth living for, since he lives in a small, boring town called Chesterton, Indiana, where basically everyone's racist and homophobic. It's interesting to see how angry old fashioned small town people get at modern progressions like legalizing gay marriage or marijuana.
Jay's best friend, Matt, is gay. Though he's out to most of the school, he's not quite out to his parents yet. He's worried how they'll react. But his parents are divorced, so he has to come out twice to his parents. Which sucks.
True Colors is a first person story about the high school experience through the eyes of Jason, with the support of his best friend and small group of close friends. Through happy times and heartbreaks, tragedy and love, True Colors is a story that you want to be reading.
