Ziva David could remember many emotions she had seen on her partner's face.

She remembered their first encounter, when a fidgeting Tony DiNozzo had looked uncomfortable and embarrassed in her presence. She remembered his emptiness at Kate's death, even with his efforts to hide it. She remembered when he lost Jeanne Benoit, the sadness and quiet longing on his face as he stared at her letter. She remembered the defeat, the self-blame in his expression after Jenny's death, and she remembered the happiness that she had often seen after his and EJ's newfound relationship. She remembered all the emotions she had found in his face, often about a female. Whether the feeling was platonic or not.

But not often she had seen this deep, philosophical side of him. Not often had she seen the introspective, serious side of him.

And never had it made her feel quite like this.
