In a land known as the Paragrim, the four marches--North, South, East, and West--are finding themselves at war with one other. With the help of an unhappily betrothed second son, a seer locked in a tower, a rogue sitting on death row, a black market alchemist, an arrogant summoner, and a not-so-powerful lesser demon, the four marches will soon find out that they're the least of each other's problems. These six teenagers must learn to work together, to evade the laws which outlaw any and all forms of sorcery, and to be strong where their teammates are weak, in order to fight against the dark, bloodthirsty, and downright sinister otherworldly entities that others are too willfully blind to see, and which threaten life as they know it.
Daughter of two very powerful magic wielders, Katima struggles to gain control over her own immense powers. But when a horrible accident and a spell gone awry threaten to change her life forever, she is forced to come to terms with what she is capable of, if she wants to set things right and keep the drama and carnage to a minimum. With the aid of her overbearing parents and her Normal friends, Katima must harness her magic, fight off flesh eating corpses, and deal with matters of the heart.
