For the booksmart yet naïve 16-year-old Nicky, high school in her quaint little hometown island in the Philippines had always been predictable. Until that senior year. Nicky thought she got things all figured out. She'd be very good at school and be the valedictorian of the single-section class of 2010 of the highly looked-up science high school in their island. And then, she'd get a full scholarship to her dream university. All was fairly well except for a few things like grappling her feelings towards a long-time crush. Just when Nicky thought she could get through high school without too much boy-drama, a somewhat seemingly love life with a boy or two and suddenly, maybe even three was finally catching up with her during the last few months before high school graduation. I had everything
I had everything. Well I could have everything. Until my parents passed away and I got sent to live with my father's longest pal, 68 miles away from where I lived. A tragedy. I was handed off like an object unable to say anything as the authorities packed my bag and shoved me into one of daddies' nice cars. I took everything with me. All of mum's things, her clothes her jewellery. It was all I had to remember her by, after all, there was a lot of it. I took all of dad's things too.
