Shannon Hoffman was a sixteen-year-old girl with a bright future ahead of her; taking Advanced Placement classes for people two years her senior while scoring a leading role in the school's production of Grease and having all but her name signed on Yale's student acceptance list, she'd always been what her parents called a kid wonder, destined to become President or visit Mars or whatever idea she could possibly set her mind to. 

Now, two years later, she's down over forty-five pounds and two GPA points, watching the numbers on the scale go down along with everything else she worked half her life for. But it's not the fault of the diets, she tells herself every night when the subject pops up, it's because she just can't get enough control...
