As a kit Marigolkit was born with a strange disorder called sublaxation of the knees which took away her chance to be a normal kit. Soon after the death of her father all Marigoldpaw wanted to do was to become a medicine cat. After moons of observing and helping littleleap, the medicine cat, as a kit Marigolpaw eagerly waits for her ceremony to presume only to have the job taken away from her. Many more moons of tornent and mockery from Glowpaw spirals Marigoldpaw to go into deep depresion though soon she meets a tom, named Stonestrike, from a different clan that understands her situation. As she starts to learn to like the tom and spend more time with him, against the warrior code, he soon dies in battle a few moons after. Pushed to the limit Marigoldpaw determinedly searches to find the killer who killed Stonestrike. Will she find Stonestrike's killer or will she fail miserably and be consumed in her depression? She loves her clanmates dearly, but the clan deputy seems to watch their every move, just waiting for any cat to slip up. But it's the clan she was raised in. So, she should be loyal to them, right? Keenkit always figured he and his littermates were normal kits who would all become apprentices and be able to train together. But when a strange cat takes his sister out of StreamClan on the day of their apprentice ceremony, he quickly realizes such hope has become impossible. Sunpaw just wants to prove to his clan, BreezeClan that he can become a great warrior. But it isn't as easy as it sounds. Even though his rival apprentice Slowpaw is much younger than him, he is always beaten in battle training and he can never catch nearly as much prey. His mentor doesn't make it any better either. Pounceheart is always treating him like some helpless kit and he worries he'll never be able to complete his warrior assessment. Being a healer who suffers from severe anxiety isn't easy, but Twitchpaw knows as long as her mentor is there, she can get through it. But as tensions rise between FlameClan and CliffClan, she's worried about the future ahead of them.

A sickness - like a mere case of the chills or a minor whitecough in a patient - is often something a medicine cat can easily fix, with some leafy catmint or perhaps a pawful of feverfew. It is vanquished effortlessly, and the illness is gone. It does not come back unless someone receives it again. But when the Clans have contracted a terrible sickness, StarClan has not answered for moons, and they are losing numbers quickly, nobody knows what to do. The medicine cats have done all they can for their Clanmates, however, nothing has worked. No longer outside the elder's den lay a lazy, gray-muzzled cat. The nursery, ever so faintly smelling of milk, only contains memories of what used to happen in the usually cheery den. The warrior's den only have three or four inhabitants, each of which thinks grimly of the day that the sickness could come upon them. The apprentice's den, in some Clans, has one cat who comes to sleep in it each night, cold and alone. Others are empty, filled with grief for lost futures. Leaf-fall has tumbled upon the Clans. Leaf-bare approaches, peeking over the treetops some mornings. This awful illness has lasted since Green-leaf and, still, with the medicine cats searching every day and the warrior's eyes peeled for it, a cure has not been found. However, each Clan has a reason for StarClan not answering them, and they mostly stick to it. (Story is being re-written, so some parts are worse than others) Ever since Eagleflight's friend dies in his kit-hood, nightmares have been rocking every slumber. It only gets worse when Eagleflight goes into battle, getting seriously hurt in the process. In the many moons in the medicine cats den, Eagleflight ponders a life as a medicine cat. When a horrible flu rocks the clan over a horrible winter, Starclan goes silent. Except, not for him. He receives many confusing visions. Soon even Hayflower is infected, and Eagleflight stands alone.
