This book is about an African American girl called Ishara. This book shows the troubles she faces with her brother as she searches for love and a sense of belonging. She is a Christian believer but going through different obstacles, she either loses faith or gains it. She has no parents to call her own just her brother and lonely path that she walks through alone.

'My brother is a cold yet warm type of person. He was mysterious and didn't want me to meddle into his business for my own safety. I wasn't close with my brother and we cared for each other the way we felt we could show our love to each other. 

We lost our parents as they were defending us and we know that they are now in a better place.'
