"Marta Velho-Musgo e o Poeta Petiz" conta a história de Marta, uma jovem e esperta moradora da rua dos Mártires, na cidade Canto-Baixo, no interior de São Paulo. Na rua existem duas gangues de meninos: os Caras Loucos e os Muchachos Birutas. Num dia quente de verão, depois de roubar a bola deles, Marta se vê obrigada a correr e, por falta de escolha, busca refúgio no temeroso Terrão. Quando faz isso, topa com uma garrafa de vidro com um papelote dentro que contém um poema que encanta a jovem menina. Quem assina é um tal de "Poeta Petiz". 
Além de ficar encantada com o conteúdo do texto, ela descobre que o papel não se destrói. 

Com a ajuda de Duda, Marta fará de tudo para descobrir quem é o Poeta Petiz.
