The world is being bombarded by massive solar flares. Now there is no electricity, and no more food in the stores. Everything has been turned upside down and backwards 200 years. How will the small Indiana town of North Webster survive without electricity, cars, or help? Follow the adventures of Sugar, the town cop and the families of the town that will become "New Webster", as they deal with famine, attacks on their city, sickness, and a new way of life. Will it be a better world in the end?

Everything would have been social chaos if not for human survival instincts, resulting in a sense of comradery and cooperation. Completely isolated and without communication with the outside world, most modern technologies must be completely reinvented for the purpose of returning home. Led by the captain, his right-hand man, and Pei, an ambitious bibliophile, the community races to assemble the raw materials around them.
