Another reason is: he never wanted to get married to his clingy childhood supposedly sweetheart, Jewel Pierce, who proposed him marriage when they were still innocent little kids. But when he meets her again, he came face to face with a mature woman who doesn't want to have anything to do with him and strongly opposed his grandfather's proposal which confused him. He thought that she was head over heels inlove with him. However, instead of completely rejecting the proposal, she told him that they will enter a contract of agreement of staying married for only six months. Of course, no strings attached. Just to help him get his inheritance. But in those six months of being together, he slowly learned that there is more to Jewel than meets the eye.
