This is a historical fiction depicting the struggles of a young African American boy fighting for equality using his connection with the editor of The Richmond Planet. WARNING: There is use of strong racial language in this short story and a lynching is described. If it makes you uncomfortable just skip it please Note: John Mitchell Jr is or was a real person. Commonly known as 'The Race Man' because he dared to print about the inequalities of that time AND encouraged his fellow neighbors to arm themselves. The lynchings that happened in the 1880s are real hundreds of innocent black men were killed.
