"Where'd you come from?" he asked, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Everett, Washington," I sighed.

"Why'd you decide to come all the way here? From the cold to the hot?"

"My parents divorced, and my mom got a boyfriend, and we moved here with him. Plus, most of my family is here, I guess it was a good choice."

"You don't seem happy about being at Chaser," he pressed.

"Why are you even talking to me?" I asked, looking up at him. "I'm basically a nobody here."

"For starters, you seem lost."

"And?" I pressed, seeing if that was the only reason.

"You're beautiful."
