"Then I heard something behind me, something like heavy breathing, like a person who'd been constantly running. I froze really stiff and the birds stopped their swooping. I think I must've stopped breathing, too.
I turned and there was Grayson on the ground.
I mean, he was crouched down.
There he was: blood covering his chin, his eyes like two darts pointed right at me. He was panting, smiling, his hands dug into the dirt of the forest floor: all dark colored, all messed up.
'Ethan,' he whispered and for a moment, I didn't think I heard him."
In Kettle, Minnesota, nerdy, reserved bookworm Ethan Lesnicki, and arrogant, conceited head football player Grayson Clark are best friends, though they share little in common. They share even less in common when Grayson mysteriously gains an appetite for human blood after a disastrous fire at a local bar. As Ethan's classmates are steadily killed in gruesome attacks, Ethan must uncover the truth behind Grayson's transformation and find a way to stop the bloodthirsty rampage before it's too late.

"We're breaking him out." Grayson announced to the rest of the gang. His eyes darted to me as my eyes almost popped out of my head.
We?
"We? As in, including me?" I asked profoundly. I can't break Ethan out of prison, that's impossible. How would that even work. He's in a maximum security unit, guarded by hundred of guards, we'll never be able to get in.
That's a suicidal mission, we'll be killed.
"Yes we, including you Jas." Jason nods, standing next to Grayson. My jaw was on the floor. "I can't do something like that, I can barely shoot a gun." I told them, shaking my head.
"It's either we break him out, or he will probably die. You think Ethan can last seven years without you Jas? He can barely last two hours! He's a criminal, the most wanted one in the US. Someone will get to him eventually. " Grayson expressed. "He'll be dead within a month."
My stomach churns at the though of Ethan's dead body lying face down on his prison cell. I feel a lump in my throat just by the feeling of him being away from me. These months has been hell. He's probably being treated horribly. Hearing Grayson say the truth out loud makes me feel sick. I know he's right. I know I have to do whatever it takes to get him back. My life doesn't matter without him. Without him, I can't be happy.
I'll do anything it takes to get him back. Even if it costs me my life.
"I'm in."
