Hazel Davenport was an ordinary girl. That is if you count being a vampires pet ordinary. Hazel was in the woods one day running away from a problem when she heard talking. Now you've heard the saying curiosity killed the cat. Well she knew she was the cat but she didn't believe she'd get killed.
