15 year old Claire and her family live in Santa Barbara, CA, when the war between the U.S. and Europe take a drastic change when nuclear warfare creates a sickness causing people to change.  These people are no longer ordinary citizens, but inhuman creatures bent on infecting anyone they can with a bite.

As Claire and her family reside in their cellar, they meet new friends to join them along their journey, develop new ways to escape, are greeted with the new horrors that everyday brings them.  New love will bloom, hatred will grow, but throughout that their glory is imminent till the end.
