70,000 years ago, the wolf-dog Bites Back first encounters humans. It doesn’t go well. And when Bites Back dies, he learns that his choices are just beginning. He comes back as Dyak—a hunter-shepherd dog bonded to the boy Attu, whose tribe is crossing the great land bridge over the Bering Straits. Then he's Tekhe, a small saluki-like pet of a master embalmer to the Pharaoh Tutankhamen. Then, a sleeve-dog in the Chinese court of 800 BCE. Over the next 3,000 years, in Imperial Rome, medieval Afghanistan and France, Shakespeare's London, the arid north country of colonial Mexico, the muddy shell-shocked trenches of WWI, space-age Russia, the United States, and 21st Century Canada, Jack--the eternal dog--has a new master or mistress in each incarnation. But is Jack the one who’s changing or is he the agent of change? Why does Jack come back?

About 1.5 billion years ago, the single-celled eukaryotes became the common ancestors of all multicellular plants, animals, and fungi. Fish evolved a primitive lung sac and four limbs, 350 million years ago, so they could crawl between fresh water swamps. About 250 million years ago, the ancestors of all mammals, were tiny nocturnal insectivores and, about 6 million years ago, we began walking on two legs. The most recent Ice Age (2.6 million to 12,000 years ago), severely reduced rainfall in Africa, where Homo habilis was evolving. In Homo erectus (1.9 to 0.5 million years ago), cranial capacity increased to between 850 and 1000 cm3 implying the phenomenal increase of 125,000 more neurons with each generation. Between 70 and 50 thousand years ago, Homo sapiens spread out from east Africa. Then, about 20,000 years ago, evolution made a sharp change in direction. After 250 million years, we ceased to be hunter gatherers. The Neolithic Revolution meant we could never go back. WHO THE HELL ARE WE? is a series of short books and videos describing the evolution of civilization. Almost everyone on the planet is five times wealthier than their ancestors only 50 years ago. This astonishing phenomenon has also improved health, education, and longevity. The cause; an explosive growth in ideas and productivity. It began when we learned to control fire, evolved articulate speech and stumbled onto the way to create infinite wealth; free trade. The discovery of agriculture made us richer but we also learned how to destroy wealth. Great civilization grew up but then disappeared leaving only incredible ruins and ideas. Later books detail some of the ideas and developments that increased the average life span from about 40 years to more than 80 and the average world income from less than $3 to more than $33 per person per day (and to $140 per day in some countries).

"Do what you want...But you're one of us now, Laina. You're supernatural. You're a panther." "That's what the Executors do, they send the people who broke you to break you again." "Laina, the Executors don't just want you to die, they want you to suffer before you die. They will torture you with everything, be careful. They will strip you of all happiness until you are left with nothing but an empty soul full of sadness. Do not let them do that to you. Hold on to the only happiness you have and do not let that go." ... Laina moves away to escape a dark past. She goes to a new school and makes new friends. But as she does, she tries to keep her secrets as secrets. She wants to have a new life- a life away from her past, her dark, bloody past. She manages to get a "new" life, but not the "new" she expected. She gets bitten by a panther with glowing eyes and realized that many in her school had this same incident with different animals, they call themselves the Bitten. She learns to accept the Bite and live with it, to find the good that she received from it. But, like everything else in the world, the good comes with bad and the bad comes with good. What happens when the Executors, an organization that hunts people who have the Bite, begin to chase after her as old wounds are ripped open once again? After all, what could one single bite really do to a person's life? Little does Laina know that this Bite will change her life completely. {just saying, the ending kind of goes a bit downhill} Began: March 3, 2016 Completed: March 28, 2016 Edited: July 4, 2018 Completed Editing: July 17, 2018 Note: although the cover says RavenTano15, I changed to yangyyue, please excuse the confusion, thank you! This is it. He's going to die, and I'll be free. At the last second, he moved, and I was suddenly pinned up against the wall, the silver dagger now in his hand. He pressed the blade to my throat, a sadistic grin creeping across his face. "Oh, Reese," he purred. "Are you in trouble now..." He leaned closer, his lips brushing my jaw. I inhaled softly. "Please," I said, my voice shaky... *** In a world where the human population has been overrun by all manner of supernatural entities, defiance is met with death. Humans are forced to be living blood bags for vampires, test subjects for witches and warlocks, and the slaves and servants of werewolves. Reese Hearne remembers the time before. When supernatural beings hid in the shadows, afraid to show their faces to the world. The time before Hunters became the prey, before they were tracked down and killed. Every last one of them. Except for Reese. Fueled by a dark past, she wrecks havoc across the supernatural world in Toronto, armed only by stakes, a silver dagger, and a lust for revenge. Then she kills the younger brother of Elijah Randon, Toronto's Alpha, the Alpha of the largest pack in North America. And he is not one to forgive easily.
