Sometimes, expectations can kill you.
Meet Jade Reynolds. A quiet, introverted young woman with the pressures of the world on her back.
Growing up in a struggling African American family, Jade has always been told that she is the "smart one" of the family- the one who will make it out of the hood. She excels at school because she has often used reading as a form of escape. However, when she becomes involved with a dangerous man, during her senior year of high school, her bright future dims. Drug addiction, sex, murder. This "smart girl" will have to learn how to stand on her own two feet- or end up 6 feet under.
Smart Girl is a coming of age story about the pressures that society places on us- and how we choose to cope with them.
Elliot Jensen and Elliot Fintry have a lot in common. They share the same name, the same house, the same school, oh and they hate each other but, as they will quickly learn, there is a fine line between love and hate.
