Not everything Hydra did had a specific purpose. Sometimes they tortured people and ruined lives just because they could. The kidnapping of Joana Kegley served no greater purpose than to help break in their newest experiment. Nothing she did could stop the turn of events that took place as the years rolled by. She hardly noticed that neither one of them aged. It wasn't until Hydra fell and she was still locked away, somewhere in the deep pits of some underground facility, that she realized how much the world had changed.
