Lira knows something is wrong the moment she sees golden flakes drift below the black surfaces of the ocean. Though her friends are planning to get drunk on a private island, the dark, lapping waves drench the island and steal all their food, leaving them for days to suffer in starvation. 

Then, the copper-tinged foam accumulates to lift a Muhit from the depths of the ocean.
