The more people around her, the easier it is for her to forget. Cy is a 17 year old trying to make it through the end of high school so he can go out an explore the world and find himself so he doesn't have to live under his parents shadows for the rest of his life. He is popular and quiet, he'd rather spend his time painting and thinking about his emotions than surrounding himself with people to forget.
