Tobias Eaton, a well-known software engineer in the new Chicago, spends his Christmas night alone with a guitar in his car trunk. No one knows where, why, what he's doing. Barely anyone knows anything about him, really.
Tris Prior, acclaimed war hero, Guardian of the Memories, is buried in a graveyard of the new Chicago next to stones of her parents, her friends, and the people who contributed. She is dead, and has been for the past two years.
