Palka Fyifhers knows she couldn't possibly make a difference in the world, let alone her own family. When her mother falls sick, she travels on her moody horse to the capital of district three, Chrilst, to gain money working for the king's stables. While she's there she meets unique people, creatures, and everything in between. When she's barely settled in, word comes that a war is threatening to terrorize the six districts of Sari, and no one knows why. Several sides are fighting to have their way, and the friends she thought she had start turning on each other. Everyone seems to have a valid and understandable point, but it's impossible to stay neutral when everything around you seems to be resulting in violence over opinions that aren't worth the consequences. Palka knows she's in a position that could help avoid war, but, as always, she doubts herself. Not only she, but others as well doubt her. You can't make a difference without trying; will Palka try to make a difference in her world?
