Beethoven and Missy's son Tchaikovsky is now happily living with the Harpercops, although the sad pup is having trouble adjusting to his new home. To cheer him up, Kali introduces him to an old friend of hers, Air Bud, and his six puppies, the Buddies. But when Tchaikovsky attempts to run away with the Buddies after finding out they're being sent away to new homes, the Buddies parents get dognapped. Now, it's up to Tchaikovsky and his new friends to save them.

When the Harpercops' neighbors, the Newtons find a St bernard puppy and decide to keep him. The puppy, later named Beethoven, grows into one-hundred and eighty-five pounds of trouble, leading into all sorts of household mishaps. The Newton family and Harpercops though quickly fawn over Beethoven, except for George Newton, the man of the house, who doesn't want the responsibility of owning the dog.
