In a town where death remains a mystery, and burial is an utter secret. Those who walk along the wrong path, shall feel his presence. An angry presence. He's gone, but he's everywhere. - "Somebody's out there!" "How do you know it's a person?" "Because nature doesn't commit these vile acts." The scene's tension lingered. The rain tapped along the raincoats of those who stood beneath the oak tree in the middle of Norwich, Pennsylvania. They were at a secluded park. Nothing but trees and rain. The rain and soft breathing from the other individuals were all that could be heard. The occasional pounding of one's heart could be heard by the human ear. The squishing dirt beneath the weight of another was heard from a couple miles away. The mud oozed upward in between the toes of whomever the person had been. The rain poured along the grass, creating a mist that was difficult to see past. A dark figure appeared beyond the mist. The figure of a man. He stood there, menacingly. He wanted something. Perverse Discovery
This is a series of short stories inspired by a friend. After buying a new house his mom found a letter (random scribbling?) left behind in a back closet. The scrap of folded paper had warnings about demons that lived in the walls and forced him to sell his house. Needless to say it was an unsettling discovery. Pair that with my own personal experience of buying a house sight unseen and moving (literally) halfway across the country in the middle of a pandemic I had enough material to put together a short collection of stories. Each story opens with an item discovered in a house followed by either the origin of the item or the discovery of the item. All focus around the experience of someone moving. I write these for fun (there are more coming, just editing at the moment) and my own entertainment during the time of social distancing. I hope you find something relatable or at the very least gets you thinking. Enjoy! I should've known my life was going to change right after I met my new, what my parents wanted me to call them, step brothers. Its Leah again here to rant about how obsessed I am with the new kid from NYC. He has such a bad boy vibe, not to mention all the rumors floating around town about why he got sent here. We don't get a lot of excitement around here in this small town. I spend most of my time as a ball of anxiety, but painting helps. My little sister Mia is like therapy when she sits down and paints with me. She is such a little angel. It seems like there's Never anything exciting, until the one day there was. This story is about a high school girl that has a crush on the new kid that just came to town from New York with a dark backstory. Not only does she have a new crush in town but there are a bunch of other secrets that have been coming to light with every sunrise the town sees. This town might be small but boy is there a lot of drama. The town police don't know what's worse, the splayed out animals or the missing high school girls. Leah doesn't know what to think as the town she knew as her home falls to shambles. Will she fall with the town or will she run away with the mystery man she has a secret obsession with.
