The Rose Among Lilies

Something is wrong tonight, and I am not sure what it is. I sigh and turn, heading back to my bedroom and jumping into my bed. A math book sits on a nearby box and deciding that I may as well study, I grab it and sit cross-legged on the bed. I can't concentrate. The feeling of wrongness increases, distracting me.

My bedroom doors fly open, startling me. When I look up, I see a figure. My room is dark, the shadows swirling around this mysterious person as I hear the sound of someone crying. I set down my book, flicking my finger to disperse the shadows. Firelight from outside falls onto his face.
