Madden Jace Carter has spent his whole life waiting for the day he could finally call his Aunt Sadie his mother.

Having been raised from birth by Sadie - a woman who has unfortunately experienced too much of the darker side of life and love - Madden has never known his biological parents, his father taking off before he was born and his teenaged mother leaving unexpectedly the night they returned from the hospital.

Sadie hasn't had much luck in love, devoting her time and energy to raising Madden instead of dating. But Madden can't help but find himself instantly drawn to Sadie's old boyfriend Ruben and his teenage foster son Jet, dreaming of what it would be like to finally have the family he imagined he never could.

When the pair meet again, Madden knows their lingering affection for each other is undeniable, and he is willing to do whatever it takes to help his true mother find the happiness she deserves with Ruben, including reaching out to someone he never thought he would even know in his lifetime.

Life has reinvented the definition of rock bottom so many times for twenty-six-year-old Sadie Blake. When her parents divorced she received a new stepfather, countless bruises and a major aversion to alcohol. With her stepfather she inherited a depressed mother, new siblings and a reckless stepsister. With her stepsister, an abandoned baby nephew and a lifetime of responsibility... Responsibility has never frightened Sadie. For so long it's been all she's known, thrown into situations outside her control and forced to just find a way to make it work. But the kind of responsibility and obligation Sadie has had to endure in her young life isn't sustainable for anyone, let alone a vulnerable teenage girl just trying to keep her family safe; and the repressed memories and overwhelming darkness lingering always in the back of her mind grow more menacing by the day, begging to be seen and felt, and threatening to consume her altogether. Through enlisting the help of a therapist, Sadie realises her list of regrets is a lot more comprehensive than she first thought, and topping that list are two very different but equally important people - Ruben Foster and Camden Jones - neither of which she has seen in over a decade, but who she comes to learn will be key to her positively moving forward in life with her eleven-year-old nephew. But the process of trudging through their respective shared pasts is proving a lot more challenging than she anticipated...

Georgia Hudson and John Luke Madden have known each other their whole lives. As they grew up together, they were forced to find a common ground in order to get along with each other. One night, as teenagers, something changed between them. Their friendship grew into love but they are forced to keep it a secret since John Luke's best friends are the son and daughter of the most hated family in town. Being a bad influence for John Luke, he is caught with drugs in his room and is forced by his father to join the marine's as a last resort. The night before he is set to leave, he takes Georgia's virginity and is sent away. After some time, Georgia doesn't hear from John Luke and assumes that he has moved on and forgotten about her. The whole time John Luke writes her letters confessing his love and wants to marry her. The notes never make it to Georgia's hands because her father hides them attempting to keep her from being influenced by John Luke. Georgia finds out she is pregnant with John Luke's baby but keeps it a secret. Will they ever be able to rekindle their love and become a happy family or is it too late?
