The Summer of the Necessary Unexpected

After a disastrous junior year, Monica is more than ready to escape her hometown in Ohio. With a plane ticket and suitcase (and pill case) in hand, she hopes the island will be a fresh start. Concerned Aunt Janet welcomes Monica with open arms to her beach house on St. Cabrini, an island in the Virgin Islands. Monica believes the summer will be no strings attached.

Swearing her illness to secrecy, Monica challenges fly with her to the island. Little to her knowledge, Janet is set to create a summer to remember which includes her neighbors son, Sebastian, who hesitates to befriend Monica. As the summer unfolds, Monica tries to leave her past of bullying and shame behind but realizes it's harder than it seems. Not only does she ignore the fact her attacks are growing worse, the island takes her heart.
