Veronica Fischer is a 26 year old Criminology Professor at NYU, or so the world thinks. 2 years ago, when she was finishing her Ph.D degree in Criminology, thinking what she would do after that, one of the best private detective agencies in the world requited her. Not only is she lithe and strong, but also has a pretty face and connections with the top people in the US.

Thus she is chosen to marry Andreas Abbeglen, the son of Walter Abbeglen, a man who has been dodging the agency ever since he stepped onto the shores of USA. She has to lie to the World, planting the idea on her parents' minds, making them think she is doing this for herself, making the world think its a bond of families who have been best friends for generations.

But hey, atleast she loves her job. However, she only knows the thrill of it, not the dark aspect, the murders and the tortures and most of all the threat to her loved ones. All along the way, she begins to realise that Andreas is nothing like his father, and has to work hard to reign in her feelings, keep it professional because when the truth gets out, it will be chaos. Oh, and the truth will catch up, it always does, and burns everything to the ground, and all the lies are bared, naked.
