"Red; the colour was in every crack, every corner, every curve. The poisonous haze leeched itself onto every surface. It squeezed the life out of everything and everyone it could. It sucked and sucked and sucked until the only things left were the whispers of those suffering. Take me. Take me. Take me. And with every life the Fog ripped apart, the brighter it became. It coats The City in a haunting, deathly, beautiful glow. Until the Fog finally squeezes its fist tight enough, hard enough, to turn it all to dust. Until there is nothing left but the grinning monster living above them, under them, around them. It's over, the beast would taunt. You've lost."

"Daddy, please don't turn off the lights. The monsters will find me." Ana pleaded as she pulled the covers up to her nose. "Don't worry, Ana. There's no such thing as monsters." Frank answered before flexing dramatically, earning a giggle from her, "Besides, if they tried to hurt you, I'd just beat 'em up!" "Promise?" "Promise." He kissed her forehead before he tucked her in and turned off the light. "Goodnight, angel." --- The world changed overnight. A mysterious system appeared in everyone's minds announcing the detection of a "Breach." Monsters unlike anything humanity had ever seen before began to emerge, immediately ending one-third of the world's population. And that was just in the beginning. Every father wants to be their daughter's hero. It's an unspoken rule written into every man's DNA. But most fathers aren't pitted up against eight legged abominations. Frank was just an ordinary man; no training, no experience, just depression and a four year old. Yet, he was all that stood between Ana and certain death. If that's the way it was, then he couldn't back down. He made a promise, and he would keep it or die trying. Luckily, the world wasn't entirely merciless. This "System" granted humanity a fighting chance: otherworldly gifts and powers that defied the laws of nature. While Frank's gift wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, it did give him power. Power enough to hopefully keep his daughter safe, and punish the monsters that dared threaten her in the first place!
