Ever since 15-year-old Annemie saw Antsje Pluk, the fairytale figure who supposedly eats children for dessert, she's known that the witch will come for her.  Now that she's no longer a child, the forest doesn't scare her anymore. One night, she sneaks out. But instead of returning safely in the morning, Antsje Pluk curses and captures Annemie, bringing her to a cottage hidden deep in the woods.

Girls have been disappearing from their village for years, but Aleta, Annemie's twin sister, won't let her become one of the lost. In order to save her sister, Aleta must face her fears head-on, find a magical flower, confront an evil witch, and break an age-old curse. Luckily, she has the guidance of an old friend, but the other girl is not what she seems, and there are secrets hidden in the woods.

Sprinkled with Dutch lore, this retelling of a neglected fairytale is filled with witches, moss maidens, and shape-shifting, but it all comes down to some very human traits: bravery, sacrifice, and most of all, love.

Mirai comes from a long line of witches who have been particularly gifted in using their inner sight. As such, she's trained her sight from a young age. She's always been a disappointment, however, as the only thing she's ever been able to see is the vague image of a girl. On her 18th birthday, Mirai discovers a mark on the back of her neck displaying the number thirty. From her first proper vision, she deduces that unless she finds the girl before the number reaches zero, both of them will die. Only being able to depend on her less than mediocre skills in seeing the future, Mirai sets out to find the girl before the time is up. Alice is a slightly plump office worker. She lives in a shared flat in London with some other girls, who she hardly ever talks to as she is very shy. She is happy to finally be independent after leaving her mother's house. Her job is her life and she loves it. Next she plans to get a boyfriend and to lose a bit of weight, then her life will be perfect. Things seem to be going well on the surface. Unfortunately the dreams were getting worse, Alice just couldn't get any sleep. After taking yet another sick day, completely by accident! Her supervisor finally gave her the talk and temporarily suspended her. It was time to sort her life out, if only she can find some courage. She is as surprised as anybody when she steps out of the office and life suddenly gets interesting! What happens when Alice goes in search of her dreams? Are they nightmares or something else?
