AzureClan, after a devastating outbreak of green-cough, there are only two survivors, the former leader Brightstar & her apprentice Thistlepaw. The two wandered for moons before finally returning to see what is left of the old clan & upon returning they are attacked by dogs, leaving Brightstar fatally wounded. With her last breath, Brightstar, tells her former apprentice, Thistlestorm, that she received a prophecy long ago, that he was the one destined to lead Azureclan into a new age. With this in mind Thistlestorm set off to fulfill the prophecy, but little does he know of what dangers shall face him in the future. Light can't exist without darkness, and something evil is lurking in the shadows' waiting patiently and growing stronger with every step he takes.

However, a closer and possibly more dangerous threat is rising, and both the clans are in trouble unless one of them figures out the mystery first. Four moons after Skyleap and Sunstorm's visit to StarClan, all is not well in ColdClan. Skyleap's kits are constantly being shunned by their clan-mates for being half-clan, and Sunstorm's terrified that she is not worthy of her medicine cat title when she doesn't treat an injured cat correctly. HeatClan are also suffering. Foxstar, their leader, is said to have been brutally murdered.
