All of the kids in this city have their fate chosen for them on the year of their seventeenth birthday. They have to attend an ordinance on the morning of July 2nd. A symbol to represent your fate is implanted into your skin and slowly rises over time. It takes about five months for the image to begin to appear, although for the full symbol to appear it takes exactly one year. Once it appears you have 24 hours to figure out what it means or you will face a catastrophe know as The Culmination. Nobody could tell you what it means because nobody in this society has suffered through it. 

When Elizabeth turns seventeen her whole life changes, having to constantly check her arm to see if the image appeared clearer, to worry about what her fate will be, what The Culmination is like or if she will need to suffer through it.All Rights Reserved
